Bring in Spring!

It's been a chilly, rainy, Spring with only a few days of warm weather peeking through. I know the kids and I are ready for sun but mother nature has her own plans. How do you get ready for the warmer season?
While feeling nostalgic for warmth I've decided to share a few diy products that will melt away the chilly weather blues. Take a look.
Customize your very own shield for play in any season. While painting think of all the ways you can use your shield in an outdoor adventure.

Merry Gift Guide

Well, it's that wonderful time of year again. I love how happy kids are around Christmas. It's so much fun to dig through my "thought" catalog to get everyone the perfect gift! This time of year can be stressful for many and put pressure on us to meet a lot of heavy expectations. As long as we remember that it's the thought that counts behind every gift we're preparing for whether it be handmade or store bought. There is always much to be grateful for and valued. From our home to yours. Merry Christmas and a Happy, healthy New Year to all!

Keeping the Kids Busy!!

Happy almost Thanksgiving!! I'm looking forward to spending this wekend with my family and getting excited about all of the festive holiday parties coming up in the next few weeks. I feel fortunate to be able to spend time with those I love.  However, during this time of year our kids seem to have A LOT of free time on their hands so I'm continually looking to find and create new, fun & easy crafts for the kids to do at home during the holidays. Especially the kind that don't require too much help on my part! They take such pride in creating and I find lots of joy in keeping them BUSY, but in a productive way.

While creating some fab seasonal art projects for Imagination Lane NYC clients, I thought I would share one of my favorite's with you. We call it "Gobble Gobble Turkey" Frame. The simplest of instructions - Pick up any wood frame from your local craft store, grab some markers, bag of feathers, glitter glue, stickers and wiggly eyes too, and poof the kids have an instant craft project to complete at home and you will have a holiday frame to put your favorite picture in to remember this year's Thanksgiving.  (See the pic for inspiration).

I hope you all enjoy this holiday with loved ones, have safe travels and enjoy eating LOTS OF CARBS! :)

Thanksgiving Survival Guide

I'm sure Thanksgiving looks different for us all, but at the end of the day if you're shopping and preparing Thanksgiving dinner you'll most likely be stressed. Read ahead for tips on surviving the week with your sanity in tact.

1. MAKE LISTS! Planning is the number one tip to help you stay on track and sane. Start planning before Thanksgiving. Put down everything you'll need and when you'll need to get it by. Plan your dinner, entertainment etc.

2. DO NOT wait until last min to do the grocery shopping. You'll want to get what you can preferably a week or more before Thanksgiving day. Why? Do you enjoy waiting on massive lines and Hunger Games style food shopping? If you don't, shop early. You'll love yourself for it in the end.

3. DISTRACT the kids: I love my children. I really do. But when push comes to shove we know they're not going to sit around quietly while you cook and prepare. Have a plan and a way to distract the kids while you work. Have movies, games, art projects and snacks ready for them. You pick and choose the combination but have a distraction game plan! Have your spouse take them outside to play - that's always my fave.

4. GET HELP! I know you can do it all but everyone needs a little help. Recruit the kids, grandparents or your spouse to help out. What can they contribute? Table setting, cleanup? Does anyone have recipes they can prepare? What about the last minute grocery store run that no one wants to make that day? Who can help?

5. BREATHE & STAY CALM. Nothing and no one is perfect so breathe, relax and let go of crazy expectations of perfection. A little wine never hurts too!
Add an extra bit of "flavor" to your Turkey Day with Imagination Lane's fun & unique goodies.

Halloween to Remember

This Halloween was truly a time to remember. In typical Imagination Lane fashion we kicked off our friends & family Halloween party with style, even in a new location. Crafts and activities we included: T-shirt coloring with stencils, foam pumpkin decorating and scratch art. It was a ghoulish good time with superheroes and witches. Also, not be forgotten, terrifying treats for ALL! We're so thankful to everyone who joined us in the festivities!

Cozy Autumn

Time to pack away the Summer gear and pull out the warm knit sweaters and scarfs! It feels like Autumn has snuck up in full force. I'm not not a fan of cold weather, especially, having to take New York City public transportation. Although, I must admit, from Fall to Winter this city comes alive.

The leaves start to change and fall away giving us New Yorkers a sense of wonder about the nature that we generally lack in the city around us. Halloween is peeking it's head just around the corner getting us ready for the next coming months of festivities and fun. The Summer was great but when it's gone I think we do well in adjusting to the change.

Another great thing about the change of season is the opportunity to create seasonal crafts. You can go out to the park and make nature your lesson and craft! This is a great time to teach the kids about fresh beginnings, colors, maybe a little biology lesson in there somewhere.

Leaf Rubbings are a great way to work on your childs' motor skills and to help them develop an artistic eye for color and composition. Check out this blog post by Mama.Papa.Bubba to see how lovely her daughter's leaf rubbing project turned out.

Break out jackets, scarves, boots and hoodies. The arrival of all the best Fall festivities are in full motion and I love it!

It's that time of year again! The August hustle and bustle to check off all the supplies from the school supplies list. The familiar scent of Fall ready to take over the Summer heat. Check out these first day of school tips.
1. Eat a Solid Breakfast: If your child isn't used to waking up early hours a healthy breakfast will help them start off the day nice and energized and they'll be full until lunch time. No rumbling bellies here.
2. Pack the Night Before: For some reason there never seems to be enough time to get ready in the morning so prep as much as you can the night before to save some time.
3. First Day of School Party: Invite neighbors and family get together and have school themed snacks and goodies.
4. Let Your Child Pick Their Own Outfit: Let your child have the option to put their best foot forward in clothes that make them feel brave. They're at an age where everyone else is making decisions for them. If mismatched socks makes them feel confident why not let them enjoy that choice.
5. First day of School Bedtime Stories: There are so many stories about the first day of school. Reading stories with characters in the same scenario your child is going into will make the first day of school a far less intimidating experience.
6. School Visit: If the school offers some sort of orientation or walk through take that opportunity to bring your child along. When the first day of school rolls around it'll already be a familiar experience. If the school doesn't offer a walk through even taking a day to walk (or drive) to the school.
Finally always be positive about the school experience. Get kids excited and ask questions about  how they feel about going to school.

The Summer heat can slow us down so we've gathered a few (healthy) tips to cool down and enjoy the season

Stay HYDRATED: The most important of all these tips. Stay hydrated! Make drinking water fun. Grab a mason jar fill it with some fruit. Add a crazy straw and it's automatically more fun and tasty for you and the kids. When things get hot make sure to make drinking water and eating watery fruit a priority.

Spa Day: Have a spa day! Soak your feet and moisturize hands. This is super simple and super relaxing you can use household items to create a mini spa or find recipes online for your own face mask. Either way we have plenty of spa day goodies here at Imagination Lane from diy spa slippers to face masks and nail stickers

Frozen & Healthy: Freeze or chill some fruit on a popsicle or skewer. Grapes, melon, strawberries. You can let the kids help you with prep. For a little sweet extra you can drizzle some yogurt or melted chocolate before freezing them.

Water Play: Who says you need to go to a water park to have fun. From around the house collect: Buckets, sponges, mister bottles & water balloons. Home made fun.

Refreshing Picnic: Whether at the park, beach or your own back yard; everyone can appreciate a picnic! Load up on refreshing and watery fruits and veggies to help keep everyone cool. Mix it up your décor with some of our vibrant disposable utensils (cups, plates, straws

Visiting Day

1

So the kids are at camp. You've enjoyed your moment of quiet and the slowing of the day-to-day routine but, it's starting to get lonely. Children may be a handful but you miss em when they're gone. It's like just yesterday you were holding this precious little baby in your arms and now they can walk, talk and enjoy time without mom and dad hand holding every step of the way. You don't realize how fast they grow until they have this little bit of independence away from you in the summer. There's nothing like "Visiting Day" to put your arms around them again and see how much fun they are having, yet how excited they are to see you! It's a great feeling to take part in their joy when they share all their new adventures with you. This moment is sweet and worth celebrating! Need a little something extra to bring with you? Want it by Friday? Order by end of the day today and Use code SEEMYKID for 10% off any of these items!
